Pursuit of Excellence
The culture, spirit and pursuit of excellence in winegrowing were woven into the fabric of our upbringing. Sentium is created in this spirit by the fourth generation of our Mondavi family, banding together to create something uniquely expressive of our shared love. A wine honoring our history with Fume Blanc, of three generations before, of a white wine from California that could stand in the company of the great wines of the world.
The Fumé Blanc Story
On The Shoulders Of Giants
While it was our great grandparents Cesare and Rosa that brought us to wine, Sentium is born of the efforts and experience with Sauvignon Blanc of our grandparents, Robert and Marjorie.
“Fumé Blanc” was one of the very first wines made at Robert Mondavi Winery in 1966 – a unique name created by Robert and Marjorie to differentiate it from the sweet white wines that were in fashion at that time. The name Fumé Blanc signaled that it was a dry, crisp, domestic Sauvignon Blanc, and gives a nod to the Pouilly Fumé region of the Loire from which the style was inspired.

We Raise A Glass
To the women in our family, we raise our glasses. It was at the family table where the name Fumé Blanc was born, as so many ideas and inspiration for our journey in wine were realized and explored. We feel the influence of the women in our family who came before us in everything we do today. We recognize and feel their support as the women of our generation step into more leadership roles.

We – Chiara, Carissa, Dante & Brian – are honored to carry on the torch for this generational dream for an exceptional Sauvignon Blanc today. With Sentium we take our family’s Fumé Blanc story one step further, building upon the knowledge of ideal sites for growing Sauvignon Blanc with nuance and complexity today. A white wine, inspired by our grandparents Robert and Marjorie Mondavi, to stand in the company of the great wines of the world.
Art and Science
Winegrower
Chiara Mondavi helms the winemaking, drawing from her 25 years of working in the vineyards and production, as well as growing up absorbing the culture and drive of her grandfather and the winegrowing expertise and passion of her father. She is also the artist who did the artwork on the label for both Sentium and Continuum. Prior to studying wine, she majored in Fine Art at California College of Art. She embodies a passion for both the art and the science of wine.
Older vines have greater stories to tell in the soul of the wine, which is why we seek out vines with age.
